The New Building for the Sami Parliament
The New Building for Sami Parliament is located in Kiruna, far in the North of Swedish Lapland.
The focus of the project was to create a symbolical building for the Sami people and fi t both technically and architecturally into the harsh and strong environment. Our proposal became a mix of rationalism/modernity and traditionalism/mysticality. The wooden shingleclad cones contain the most important spaces such as the library, theatre, and the main plenary hall. The common spaces are left in the open space in between the cones.
The offices are separated into its own rational entity on the other side of the building. The materials consist of wood in different forms blending in with glass and highly modern details. The building is designed completely wood structured.
