Kraaseli

The project asked for a mass produced house with affordable solutions. Yet the site it pointed was a hill sloping heavily and varying to the north. So the challenge became to fit a standard house to a non-standard site.

Digging into the hill was proved too expensive. Cantilevering too high over the hillside too dangerous. The split level -system enables the building lie gently on the hillside. It also allows freedom in the overall shape of the building to bring sunlight into the mass of the house. Due to small plot size one facade of every building is “blind”, turning all of the space between buildings into a private courtyard.

The houses will be produced in a factory and transported to location by water. A crane lifts the houses onto their plots, one by one, practically completely finished.
