Meieriet City Block
Kristiansand is the jewel in a chain of "White Towns" along the coast of Southern Norway. Since the 16th century these towns have been built of whitewashed wood with black glazed roof tiles in a strict grid plan.
This relatively large office building aims to blend into the traditional low cityscape. Its eaves zig zag around the block adjusting to surrounding conditions at each point. The facade and roof consist of the traditional hand made materials. The inner glazed courtyard rises higher to allow sunligt deep into the open plan loft offices.
The ground floor consists of a large shop filling almost the entire site excluding the foyer for the office spaces. The shop is accessible directly from Skippergata and Gyldenløvens Gate. The office foyer has its own entrance from the main street Festningsgata. The elevated inner courtyard is accessed from Skippergata. There are two levels of parking below.
